PUBLIC SCULPTURE PROJECT
Contact: John Lumea
The Emperor's Bridge Campaign has been asked to help develop and advance a project to place a fitting, permanent sculpture of Emperor Norton at a prominent public site in San Francisco.
The proposed concept is for a two-person park bench, with one of the "seats" being occupied by a life-sized sculpture of Emperor Norton.
The initially proposed site is Portsmouth Square, where the Emperor usually spent his mornings — and where he is said to have calmed a rabble intent on doing physical harm to Chinese workers, by reciting the Lord's Prayer and instructing them that "we are all God's children."
Several other sites are being considered as well.
