Emperor Norton's Actual Factual 201st Birthday Party!
Following on from our fabulous San Francisco-wide EMPEROR NORTON AT 200 series of talks, exhibits, parties and other special events last January, February and March — to mark the bicentennial of Emperor Norton's birth on 4 February 1818...
The Emperor's Bridge Campaign* returns with its fifth annual celebration of the Emperor's historical birthday — a tradition we inaugurated in 2015 with a party for the Emp's 197th.
Last year, we gathered at the Comstock Saloon on February 4th. We're delighted to have our friends at the Comstock to join us once again as our co-host of this signal event in the Norton calendar. They've created a special cocktail for the occasion: the Terrific Street Smash! (Details below.)
Let the countdown to the 2118 tricentennial begin!

On 3 February 2015 — alas, our event space already was booked on the 4th! — The Emperor's Bridge Campaign held its first birthday party for Emperor Norton. At this event, we presented our original research establishing 4 February 1818 as the most likely birth date for Joshua Abraham Norton, the future Emperor.
Previous biographers had offered 1818 as the year of Emperor Norton's birth. But, none had made the case for a specific date. Nor had they explained why the birth year — 1819 — inscribed on the Emperor's gravestone is mistaken.
The "article version" of our research presentation is here.
For our comprehensive coverage of this issue, see our Emperor's Birth Date Research Project here.
See you on February 4th! Bring all your Emperor-saluting friends!
* In December 2019, The Emperor's Bridge Campaign adopted a new name: The Emperor Norton Trust.
