In Gratitude, Respect, Honor & Solidarity

It's Emperor Norton Day, the 135th anniversary of the Emperor's passing on 8 January 1880.

This afternoon, The Emperor's Bridge Campaign* left a flower and a note at the Emperor's grave in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Colma, Calif.

Here's a gallery from the day.

The gate at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Colma, Calif., where Emperor Norton has rested peacefully since 1934. Prior to that, he was at the Masonic Cemetery in San Francisco.

A view of the Emperor's gravestone on Emperor Norton Day, 8 January 2015. The Emperor's Bridge Campaign left the taller of the two roses. The bottle of Anchor Steam to the right still was cold when we got there. When we stopped in to raise a glass (Jameson's) at Molloy's, a half-hour later, we learned that we'd just missed the fellow who bought the bottle there.

The pebble for the Emperor, who was Jewish, is a sign of respect in the Jewish tradition.

The Emperor and the more-modern legend, Jose Sarria a.k.a. The Widow Norton, who died in 2013.

From Emperor Norton's grave, there is a view of Sutro Tower perfectly framed between two beautiful trees.

* In December 2019, The Emperor's Bridge Campaign adopted a new name: The Emperor Norton Trust.
